Book Beginnings: Memoirs of a Geisha

“Suppose that you and I were sitting in a quiet room overlooking a garden, chatting and sipping at our cups of green tea while we talked about something that had happened a long while ago, and I said to you, ‘That afternoon when I met so-and-so…was the very best afternoon of my live, and also the very worst afternoon.’”

~Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden

Book Beginnings is a weekly meme, hosted by Katy at A Few More Pages.
How to participate: Share the first line (or two) of the book you are currently reading on your blog or in the comments. Include the title and the author so we know what you’re reading. Then, if you feel so moved, let us know what your first impressions were based on that first line, and let us know if you liked or did not like the sentence. The link-up will be at A Few More Pages every Friday.

I find this weekly meme to be really interesting because I keep track of every first sentence of the books I read. I’ve found that it would be fun to later try to create a whole story made up of first-lines from books I’ve read 🙂
